Do Magnetic Sweepers Work?

The Magnetic Sweeper (also known as a magnetic broom) is an effective tool for picking up nails, tacks, screws, bolts, swarf, and other ferrous metals, but its efficiency depends on factors such as the magnetic properties, the width of the magnetic surface, the height above the ground, and the speed at which it is moved.

What is magnetic sweeper?

magnetic sweeper's magnetic force originates from the permanent magnetic element (commonly ferrite magnets) encapsulated in a sturdy box-type casing, which is classified into hand-push type and vehicle-mounted suspension type and trailer type. The push type is more suitable for home use, often used in the yard, lawn, garage, roof tools and other environments, of course, can also be used in commercial areas.

The magnetic nail sweeper has wheels on each end, you simply roll it over a surface and they pick up passing ferrous parts. It's fast, safe, simple and easy to collect small, sharp, potentially damaging or dangerous ferrous parts. This design gives you peace of mind and easy storage of collected parts without having to touch any of them.

The hand-powered magnetic sweepers all come with an adjustable length handle that helps to avoid bending and straining your back while cleaning your work area. It is also designed with a quick release handle that can be lifted to remove all attached magnetized metal particles for fast handling and cleaning.

Magnetic Performance

Different models of Magnetic Floor Sweepers have different magnetic performance, also known as capacity. The magnetic performance of a Magnetic Sweeper is an important indicator of efficiency. For example, while QCM manufactures a 17-inch Magnetic Sweeper that can carry up to 8.8 pounds of magnetic metal objects, the 36-inch product offers superior load capacity and can carry up to 50 pounds.

Working width of magnetic sweeper

The popular hand-push magnetic sweeper working widths on the market today are 17 inches, 24 inches, 32 inches, and 36 inches. Hanging magnetic sweeper more common working width of 48 inches, 60 inches, 72 inches, 84 inches. magnetic sweeper working width indicates that it can pick up the range of ferrous debris, the magnetic width is the reaction of the magnetic sweeper working efficiency of the reference indicators. Smaller working width magnetic sweepers are suitable for small areas, such as sidewalks, around shop machines, lawns, etc. Larger working width magnetic sweepers are used to cover larger areas such as yards, sports fields, parking lots and truck depots (to help prevent tire blowouts).

Ground clearance

QCM's latest magnetic sweeper has a ground clearance of 20mm-40mm, which is height adjustable to facilitate sweeping on uneven surfaces. For better sweeping results, it is not recommended to adjust the height too high to avoid reducing the magnetic force.

Travel Speed

The rolling magnetic sweeper has 2 rubber wheels so you can easily push it along. However, when you reach the pre-sweeping area, please reduce your travel speed, as moving too fast will reduce the ability to attract magnetic metal parts. Suspended magnetic sweepers are usually suspended from the underside of a vehicle or a forklift shovel, and it is recommended that the vehicle not travel faster than 5 miles per hour for best results.
