There is no single "best" answer for which magnet is best for magnet fishing. The best magnet depends on your level of experience, where you fish, what you are targeting, and your specific needs.
Different types of magnets and their applications:
Single-sided magnet for magnet fishing
Single-sided fishing magnets are often referred to as "sinking" magnets. They are best suited for vertical launching from a high point such as a dock or bridge, especially in slow-moving water. Their pull is concentrated on one side. Because of the concentrated pull, they are better suited for pulling up heavier objects such as safes.Single-sided magnets for fishing are great for holding and pulling up flat objects such as I-beams, safes, and car doors. Many magnet fishing for beginners are single-sided magnets, with pulling forces typically ranging from 240 to 260 lbs. The QCM 1200 lb Single-sided fishing magnet is ideal for "launching" from docks or bridges, with a strong QCM's standard single-sided magnet works best when lowered vertically.

Double sided fishing magnet
These are best used on steep slopes and in fast-moving areas such as streams and rivers. They attract objects on both the top and bottom of the magnet. The total pull is the sum of the top and bottom pulls, e.g., a 1200 lb. double sided magnet fishing has a pull of 600 lbs. per side. Ideal for throwing from shore or bridges and towing or dredging the bottom. They slide more easily than single sided magnets, which makes attaching flat objects more difficult, but are better suited for towing on uneven bottoms. Some double sided magnets have loops on the edges for dragging or also have loops on the face that allow them to be lowered vertically like single sided magnets.QCM round neodymium magnets are double sided and have a pulling force of 600-660 lbs.

Clamp Magnets
Ideal for dragging bottoms in fast-moving water. Uses a solid magnet secured in a frame with a greater range of magnetic fields except where the clip is secured. Can attract objects from a greater distance. Great for sliding and dredging. Attracts flat objects even better than double sided magnets. They will attract everything in their path including nails, pipes, guns, knives and treasure.
The most versatile of the 360 degree fishing magnets, they are similar in shape to single and double sided magnets, but have the greater magnetic field of clip magnets. Can attract objects from all sides. Can be used for towing in fast currents or launching from bridges/docks. They can attract everything within one diameter around the magnet. Usually more expensive. The attraction is so strong that it is sometimes difficult to remove them from flat objects.

Key Considerations for Choosing a Magnet
· EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Beginners are usually advised to start with magnets that have a lower pulling force, such as those with a total pulling force of between 500 and 1200 pounds. Starter kits are a good starting point. Pulling more than 1200 lbs. usually requires more experience.
· Pulling Force: The higher the pulling force, the heavier the object that can be pulled up. However, as mentioned earlier, the way pull force is calculated varies depending on the type of magnet (single sided magnets have a concentrated pull force, double sided magnets have a spread out pull force).
· MATERIALS AND DURABILITY: High quality magnets are usually made with neodymium magnets and are protected with a stainless steel casing or a coating (e.g., nickel-copper-nickel or triple-coated) to enhance durability, corrosion resistance, and to prevent chipping or cracking.
In short, there is no best magnet for all situations. If you are a beginner or primarily launch vertically from a dock/bridge, a single sided magnet with a moderate pull may be a good choice. If you are primarily hauling or dredging in fast-moving water or casting from shore, a double-sided magnet or clip-on magnet may be more appropriate. If you want versatility and the ability to attract a larger range of objects around you, a 360 fishing magnet or more powerful model is worth considering, but this is usually for experienced players. Starter kits usually contain magnets as well as essentials such as rope, gloves, hiking buckles and storage containers, and are a good choice for those just starting to try out fishing magnet.
