grate magnetic separator
Grate magnets are specialized magnetic separators designed to remove ferrous metal contaminants from free-flowing products in various applications. These devices are commonly used in industries such as food processing, grain handling, and recycling to ensure product purity and protect equipment from metal damage.
Construction and Design
Grate magnets consist of a series of magnetic tubes arranged in a frame. The standard configuration features:
- Magnetic tube: QCM standard diameter 1 inch, spacing 2 inches, other commonly used diameters D10, D16, D19, D20, D22, D28, D32, D38, D50, D76, D100, length within 2500mm.
- Frame Material: Constructed from stainless steel (304 or 316 grades), which provides durability and resistance to corrosion.
- Magnet type: They can be made of different types of magnets, including ceramic, alnico, and rare earth (such as NdFeB). Currently, QCM uses NdFeB magnets to make magnetic rods whose surface magnetic field strength can reach 10,000 Gauss, 12,000 Gaussian, 13000 Gaussian, 14000 Gaussian, and 15000 Gaussian.
- Operating Temperature: Standard operating temperature <80 degrees Fahrenheit, maximum operating temperature 80-350 degrees Fahrenheit if required.

Types and Variants
Grate magnets come in various shapes (round, square, rectangular) and sizes, ranging from small units suitable for compact applications to larger systems for high-volume processing. Some models also offer features like self-cleaning mechanisms for enhanced efficiency in automated environments.

Functionality
Grate magnets work by being placed directly in the product stream, allowing the flow of materials to come into contact with the magnetic tubes. As products pass over these tubes:
- Ferrous contaminants are attracted to the magnets and held securely.
- The design minimizes the risk of metal particles washing back into the product stream, thus maintaining cleanliness.
Applications
Grate magnets are versatile and can be used in various settings:
- Food Processing: To ensure that food products are free from metal contaminants.
- Grain Handling: Commonly used in grain facilities to capture metal fragments during transport through chutes and ducts.
- Recycling: Effective at separating metals from other materials during processing.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning grate magnets is straightforward; they can be removed easily for maintenance. Users wipe the magnetic tubes clean to remove any captured metal debris. It is essential to size grate magnets appropriately to avoid obstructing product flow-ideally, they should have a cross-sectional area at least twice that of the inlet opening.
